Study on mapping Internet of Things innovation clusters in Europe

Ongoing
Start Date: December, 2016
End Date: November, 2017
Client: European Commission, DG CNECT
Website: iotclusters.eu
Description:

The proposed study aims to understand the ecosystems driving innovation in IoT by creating a Dynamic Mapping of IoT innovation clusters (start-ups, accelerators, incubators, investors, research centres, smart communities, etc) in Europe. It will provide policy makers and the community with relevant, reliable and up-to-date data, informing decision makers where these developments are the most dynamic, or what their key drivers may be.

The main objectives are hereby to provide a clear and systematic understanding of the dynamics (i.e. factors of emergence, key drivers and common characteristics) that have led to the creation of the existing IoT innovation clusters in the European Union as well as concise and comprehensive information about these clusters using for example specific ranking categories. It will deliver a comprehensive mapping overview of the geographical areas of these IoT innovation clusters operating within the European Union, describing their main specialisation in IoT areas.

Moreover, the study will integrate & present concise and comprehensive information about the existing IoT clusters within a cutting edge, dynamic online mapping platform. The platform will collect qualitative and quantitative information on a vast set of IoT and ICT innovation clusters in the application areas provided and make available these data for ranking and analysis. The data will be the basis for at least 20 case studies, which will undertake the in depth analysis of IoT clusters.
